A talk by Gita Wolf founder of Tara books & Thinking Hands Exhibition

On 30 April 2023 KAASH Foundation will open a unique first-of-its kind crafts-based exhibition called THINKING HANDS at its gallery space in Bangalore. Collaborating with Tara Books, the publisher of children’s books, founded by Gita Wolf, KAASH will exhibit new works by four master artists: Sunita, Ram Singh Urveti, Gariba Singh and Tushar and Mayur Vayeda. The works are based on artwork originally published by Tara books. The exhibition will also feature prints and publications by the Chennai-based publishing house. THINKING HANDS opens with a talk by Gita Wolf and a conversation with Prof. Arthur Duff, former CEPT university faculty member and Trustee at KAASH.

All the works from the exhibition are the result of a month-long residency workshop with the artists, created in-situ at the KAASH space. The exhibition explores new representations of three very different forms of painting that were once wall-based and location specific: Gond art from Madhya Pradesh, Warli from Maharashtra and Meena art from Rajasthan. KAASH experimented and worked with the artists to explore new materials, such as Corten Steel, wood, and blackboard. The materials, all from the earth, seem to echo facets of the original form of the craft and their background material.  The  exhibition will continue till Tuesday 31 May 2023.
