Thinking Hands Exhibition

All the works from the exhibition are the result of a month-long residency workshop with the artists, created in-situ at the KAASH space. The exhibition explores new representations of three very different forms of painting that were once wall-based and location specific: Gond art from Madhya Pradesh, Warli from Maharashtra and Meena art from Rajasthan. KAASH experimented and worked with the artists to explore new materials, such as Corten Steel, wood, and blackboard. The materials, all from the earth, seem to echo facets of the original form of the craft and their background material.  The  exhibition will continue till Tuesday 31 May 2023.

KAASH was set up as an education and exhibition platform for Indian crafts, with the belief that traditional art practices are as nuanced and intricate as other forms of art. As an institution we believe that these community-based forms of ritual expression are ‘craft collectibles’ whose value is indicative of both the legacy of these artforms and each artist’s language of expression. The exchange between KAASH and artists has therefore produced a completely new body of work.
