Ganjifa
Ganjifa
In the 1980s, Bhat revived this fading tradition, training local artists, experimenting with pigments and techniques, and reintroducing Ganjifa to contemporary audiences. This commitment to the art form has earned him the title ‘Ganjifa Raghupati Bhat’.
The drawing is more personal. It is a counterpoint to the public acclaim of his Ganjifa. It gestures toward a larger relationship between recognition and authorship, suggesting the restlessness of an artist who has done much more than what he is most known for.
